Lion Spotlight

This month's Lion Spotlight shines on 1967 Alhambra Lion,
Theodore (Ted) Wang

Class of 67 alum Ted (Theodore) Wang has led a post-high school life of service and variety to be sure.

After graduating from Arizona State with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 he went on to garner a Masters in Mathematics in 1972.

A “stint” in the U.S. Air Force lasted for 30 years, and saw Ted attain the rank of Colonel. That 30-year career included postings at numerous bases in the U.S., a year in Thailand and a four year stay in Kuwait, where he served as Chief of Staff/Deputy Chief for the Office of Military Cooperation, during the Iraqi invasion.

A condensed version of the assignments Ted drew were as diverse--Deputy Commander of the Cheyenne Mountain AFB, squadron commander of Space Test Squadron, taught Mathematics at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and three years at Johnson Space Center in Houston in various capacities for the NASA Shuttle Program.  Additionally, Ted was assigned as Air Force Space Command staff officer at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado. After retirement, Ted was a program manager for Lockheed Martin in Virginia for ten years.

Post post-retirement, in 2017 Ted and his bride, Gloria went on a 12-day safari in Tanzania and he is learning French and Spanish. The Wangs have lived in Alexandria, VA for 17 years and are the parents of three children—oldest Teri, a Chemistry professor at Northwestern; Christopher, an Engineering Manager in Chicago; and, Carrie, who served in the Army and participated in the Iraqi invasion, a Major in the Army Reserves and is now a Director of Human Resources at Fort Lee, Virginia--and two grandchildren.
